What can we do as individuals?
By now we are all aware of global warming and it’s far reaching, effects. Newspapers, TV reports and magazines continually remind us that our precious planet is heating up.
It would be very easy for us to throw our hands up in the air and say “what difference can I make, I am just one person”.
Well lots of “one” persons can add up to a huge change and this is what you are invited to participate in.
If each of us committed to doing some or all of the items in the list below, you will be surprised at the changes that will occur.
Educate yourself, your family and friends as to what they can do to make a difference. There is a wealth of excellent information on the web.
Here are are few suggestions to get you started:
Turn it off lights, television, DVD player, Hi Fi, computer etc. etc., when not in use
Turn down the air-conditioning slightly (try just 1 to 2 degrees C)
Turn down the water heating setting (just 2 degrees will make a significant saving)
Fill your dish washer and washing machine with a full load – this will save you water, electricity, and washing powder
Fill the kettle with only as much water as you need
Unplug your mobile phone as soon as it has finished charging
Defrost your fridge/freezer regularly
Do your weekly shopping in a single trip
Hang out the washing to dry rather than tumble drying it
Go for a run rather than drive to the gym
Fit energy saving light bulbs
Refuse plastic shopping bags for small carry items
Use a cotton shopping bag instead of plastic
Segregate wastes and recycle
Will you make a difference with your action and you be part of the solution?
